Q: Will you accept my health insurance? A: I do not accept health insurance in my practice. Health insurance companies have become increasingly involved in treatment in ways that I believe are intrusive and detrimental to the therapy process. For example, insurance companies can and do tell therapists that for cost effectiveness reasons alone, therapy must be curtailed or even terminated. I believe that no insurance company should decide whether your issues are worthy of coverage or how many sessions you may be allowed to have. While I want to go to reasonable lengths to help my clients access their insurance benefits, I do not believe that it is appropriate to allow the benefits to control the treatment. For these reasons, I have decided not to be a provider on insurance panels. You can, however, submit the receipt I provide after each session to your insurance company to request reimbursement for my services as an out-of-network provider. Q: How long does therapy last? A. The amount of time spent in therapy varies from person to person. For some people, a few months is enough to achieve their goals. Others may take a year or more. Among the factors that influence the duration of treatment are your life circumstances, your motivation, and the complexity of the issues that are being addressed. Q. Why do you recommend weekly sessions? A. When there is too much time between appointments, progress is noticeably slower and the momentum is lost. I have found that in most cases, weekly sessions are the most effective for making real progress. Q. Are there other therapists who are a part of the Quiet Waters Center? A. No, I am the owner and sole member of my company.
